Farmers warned over roaming livestock

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform has warned livestock owners to stop allowing their animals to roam freely along roads and in public spaces. The ministry says such behaviour could increase the risk of spreading foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Ministry spokesperson Romeo Muyunda says the ministry is concerned about reports of cattle and other livestock roaming freely in different parts of the country. “Farmers are, therefore, urged to take responsibility for their livestock by ensuring that animals are properly confined within designated establishments and do not roam freely,” he says.
